MANILA, Philippines — James Younghusband opened up the scoring for the Philippines as the Azkals take a 1-0 lead over Hong Kong at the end of the first half of their Fifa international friendly Tuesday at Mongkok Stadium in Hong Kong.

Younghusband scored on a header — rising above his defender — in the 33rd minute off the delivery by Stephan Schrock.

Hong Kong went for the equalizer four minutes later but to no avail with Neil Etheridge holding his ground.

As usual, we often win in friendly games because the team is complete. But when it’s actual competition, some important players are absent and we lose.
