MANILA, Philippines — Perpetual Help routed Emilio Aguinaldo College, 69-49, on Thursday for its opening win in NCAA season 89 men’s basketball tournament at the Arena in San Juan.

The Altas had the edge on most statistical department, especially on assists where they had 20 compared to the Generals’ six.

“Maganda tinakbo ng team. Maganda ang pasahan,” said veteran head coach Aric Del Rosario.

Earl Thompson and Nosa Omorgbe each had 14 points for Perpetual Help, which jumped the gun early, while Juneric Baloran added 12.

The Altas zoomed away when scored 20 in the second quarter — four more than the Generals’ entire first half output.

Only Jolas Paguia scored in double digits for the Generals with 12, as the next best scorer is Noube Happi who finished with eight.
