Lady Tams roll back Lady Falcons; La Salle wins

Tougher when it mattered, Far Eastern U launched its UAAP women’s basketball title retention bid with a scrambling 54-48 triumph over Adamson yesterday at Ateneo’s Blue Eagle Gym.

Camille Sambile dished out a double-double of 25 points and 15 rebounds to lift the Lady Tamaraws, who struggled in the early going  before finally putting away the Lady Falcons.

La Salle also barged into the win column of the Season 76 tournament by dumping fierce rival Ateneo, 54-38.

National U held off University of the Philippines, 60-51, with center Maica Cortes posting 19 points, 19 rebounds and six blocks, while University of Santo Tomas pummeled University of the East, 67-45, in the other games.

Ara Abaca and Trisha Piatos combined for 23 points for the Lady Archers, who held the Lady Eagles to just two points in the last period.

After pulling off a 16-game sweep last season, the Lady Tamaraws were pushed to the limit this time. Cedelf P. Tupas
