Huey, British partner advance in US Open doubles


THE PAIR of Filipino Treat Huey and Briton Dominic Inglot barged into the second round of the US Open men’s doubles Thursday (Friday morning in Manila) after beating their Austrian opponents.

Banking on their strong service game and long years of playing together, Huey and Inglot outlasted Julian Knowle and Jurgen Melzer,
6-2, 6-7 (7-4), 7-6 (7-5).

Huey, ranked 32nd in world doubles, and Inglot fired 12 aces as against their rivals’ five in the match that lasted a little over two hours.

Huey and Inglot arranged a clash with Italian Daniele Bracciali and Czech Lukas Diouhy who bested Paolo Lorenzi and Andres Seppi, 7-5, 7-5. Marc Anthony Reyes
