Huey banners PH Cuppers vs New Zealand

Treat Huey will once again banner the Cebuana Lhuillier-Philippine Davis Cup team along with Ruben Gonzales, Johnny Arcilla and Francis Casey Alcantara against New Zealand on Sept. 13 to 15 at Plantation Bay Spa and Resort in Lapu-Lapu City.

Huey, who is competing in the US Open men’s doubles along with Briton Dominic Inglot, led the nomination of players released yesterday by the International Tennis Federation.

It was the same team that drubbed Thailand, 4-1, last April and put the Philippines to the final of the Asia Oceania Group 2 final. Winner will get promoted to elite Group 1 next year.

Meanwhile, 16th seeds Huey and Inglot will vie for the semifinals berth against 10th seeds Ivan Dodig of Croatia and Marcelo Melo of Brazil 11 a.m. Wednesday (11 p.m. in Manila) in New York. Marc Anthony Reyes
