MANILA, Philippines – Raring to bounce back, defending champion Rain or Shine wasted little time in imposing its will as it rolled past Barako Bull, 120-93, in the 38th PBA Governors’ Cup Tuesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Stocky import Arizona Reid topscored with 34 points but it was Jeff Chan, who really gave the Elasto Painters a boost at the offensive end with his best game yet this conference.

“We finally played well in a long time. Jeff (Chan) got his bearing back with his outside shots, this is his best game I think this conference,” said ROS head coach Yeng Guiao, whose squad tied Barako Bull in the standings with identical 4-3 records.

Chan has been struggling since returning from his impressive play in the FIBA-Asia Championship but it didn’t take long before he got his shooting touch back with his conference-best 20 points – missing just one out of his five attempts from three-point distance.

With two its starting guards out, the Painters also drew a solid game from sparingly-used player Jonathan Uyloan, whose 12 points, six rebounds and two assists in 23 minutes proved to be enough to fill the void left by the injured Paul Lee.

“Jonathan Uyloan provided a lot of contributions in the absence of Paul Lee he played defense on Monfort and had his share on offense. Everybody played tough on both ends,” Guiao added.

“We prepared really hard. We knew this was a big game. I wasn’t too sure if our offense is going to click tonight. We lost three in the last four and our offense was really awful. I just ask the guys to look to score.”

Michael Singletary paced the Energy, who trailed big early, with 31 points while Danny Seigle added 19.

ROS rebounded from its 72-86 loss to Meralco last Friday while Barako Bull failed to follow up its 98-97 comeback win over GlobalPort on Sunday.
