Trainer: A happy Manny, fights well

01:42 AM November 24, 2013

MACAU—When Manny Pacquiao is happy he fights beautifully and no one knows this better than chief trainer Freddie Roach  through his 12 years of association with the Filipino ring icon.

That’s why the five-time Trainer of the Year is sticking to his prediction that it will be lights out for Brandon Rios in six rounds or less when they clash today.

Throughout training camp, Roach said  Pacquiao has been in a light mood. Even during the official weigh-in, which was normally held in the afternoon but was moved early morning Saturday, Pacquiao retained an aura of calmness.

“Manny is in great spirits, he came in a good weight (145 pounds),” said Roach, who thinks Pacquiao will come to the fight at 148, 149 lb after three full meals Saturday and a full meal and a light snack Sunday.

“It’s our great fighting weight,” added Roach, noting that Pacquiao tipped the scales at an exact 147 pounds when he fought and lost to Timothy Bradley and Juan Manuel Marquez last year.

With Pacquiao able to eat what he wants, Roach said there’s nothing to worry about.

“He’s in a great place right now. He’s happy. If Manny is happy, he fights well.”
