Asian V8 racing slated at Clark

MANILA, Philippines — Racers from eight countries are expected to see action in the inaugural staging here of the Asian V8 Championship set April 5 at Clark International Speedway.

Featuring late-model Nascar racecars that could reach  top speed  of 280 kilometers per hour, the series hopes to push the Philippines to the international racing map.

Organized by the Philippine Formula Autosports Foundation headed by racing promoter Tom Pastor, the series will run from April to June.

Speaking during a press conference at Resorts World Manila, Pastor said the PFAF has acquired eight late-model Nascar racecars that will serve as competitive and training vehicles for the event.

Pastor’s son, Enzo, will represent the country in the event. Enzo finished sixth in the Nascar Whelen Euro Series and is looking to make his mark in the Asian V8 race.

Drivers from Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, Australia and Macau will also see action, said Pastor.  The Asian V8 Championship will begin official testing on March 1 at Batangas Racing Circuit.  Cedelf P. Tupas
