Possible import replacement for Boone on his way to Manila

MANILA, Philippines — San Miguel import Josh Boone hasn’t even played a game in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup, but he could be his on his way out.
Kevin Jones, who played with the Canton Charge in the NBA D-League, is already on his way to the Philippines to be a possible replacement for Boone as Beermen’s reinforcement.
In a tweet on Friday, Jones, who averaged 16.9 points and eight boards in the D-League, said that he was about to board his last flight to Manila.
“I wanna thank all of the fans of the Beermen for their support. Can’t wait to play for you guys!” he said on his Twitter account @kevjones5.
An online report by RealGM.com also confirmed that Jones, who also played with the Cleveland Cavaliers, has left his D-League team to sign with the Beermen.
The Beermen’s opening game against Meralco later on Friday will help decide if Boone will stay with the team or Jones will eventually suit up for San Miguel.
INQUIRER.net tried to reach team manager Gee Abanilla for comment, but the former Petron coach hasn’t responded.
In previous an interview, newly-instated Beermen head coach Biboy Ravanes said that while Boone wasn’t a “go-to-guy,” he was right fit for the team.
“Well, he’s not really a go-to-guy. He just wants to work hard. Like a role player, get all those rebounds, play defense. We don’t really need a shooter because we have a lot of those so he’s a perfect fit for us.”
