MANILA, Philippines—It was his peace of the ocean, and he let everyone knew that he was the force to be reckoned with.

Breezing past his competition and enticing the wind to his bidding, Geylord Coveta trounced the contenders at the 12th Anilao Windsurf Regatta in Anilao, Batangas that concluded on Sunday.

A national team veteran, and the king of the RS:One World Championships in 2012, Coveta had no problem conquering the Anilao beach near the Janao resort to capture the top spots such as the Open category, where other National athletes joined, and the Mistral Sail category, the toughest in the contest.

“I’m happy right now, this is where we train, and I was even at a disadvantage during the Open category since I used a slower board and sail,” the Anilao-based athlete said.

“There’s a certain pride as a national athlete, but I don’t think of it too much.”

Coveta bested other Philippine team members Yancy Kaibigan and Harold Madrigal in both the Open and Mistral Sails category.

“It’s still a competition, even if they are my teammates,” Coveta said with a sly smile. “I’m happy to beat the young guys but if they beat me, I may feel down but I’m happy for them since I know that they are improving.”
