MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines remained unscathed in the girls’ division of the 2014 Street Child World Cup after a 6-0 beating of England early Saturday (Manila time).

The ladies’ third straight win in the tournament held in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil earned them a spot in the semifinals versus Mozambique.

The Filipino boys, though, fought valiantly but failed to advance to the final four after falling to Pakistan, 2-3, in penalties.

“The girls are nursing a few knocks but should be good for the semifinals,” read a post in the Team Philippines Street Child World Cup Facebook page.

“The boys played brilliantly. Their attitudes were great and they did everything we asked of them.”

The Street Child World Cup, which was first held in 2010, is a global movement aimed at giving street children equal protection and opportunities that all children are entitled to.

Over 230 children from 19 nations are taking part in the event, which also includes a festival of arts and a conference for children’s rights.
