Philab stops RTU’s streak

MANILA, Philippines — Philab dealt Rizal Technological University its first defeat with a 10-7 decision Sunday to bolster its bid for a semifinal berth in the PSC Commissioners’ Cup at Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.

The Ballbusters banged in four runs in the third to take the lead at 6-5 and then added four more runs to secure their fourth triumph in five outings.

It was the Blue Thunder’s first setback after a rousing five-win start that included a win over top UAAP team Ateneo.

Philab, made up of former national players, needs to just win over Dragons tomorrow to book a slot in the crossover stage.

The Dragons, the 18-under squad of International Little League Association of Manila, rose to 3-5 with a 9-0 rout of Philippine Navy, which absorbed its fifth defeat in six games. Earlier, University of Santo Tomas nosed out Pacific Online, 4-3.

The Tigers led 4-0 after five innings and went on to match the Dragons’ 3-5 slate as the rally of Pacific Online (1-3) rally fell short.
