MANILA, Philippines — Davao tries to move closer to a quarterfinal berth in its maiden appearance in the Shakey’s V-League when it collides with winless Perpetual Help Tuesday while St. Benilde also hopes to catch the last bus to the next round in Group A at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

A day after stunning Far Eastern University, 25-20, 25-19, 20-25, 25-22, the Lady Agilas set out as the favorite against the Lady Altas, who dropped their first three matches in the Season 11 First Conference.

St. Benilde seeks the last quarterfinal berth in Group A against winless St. Louis University in the 4 p.m. main game.

Baguio-based SLU can still make the quarterfinals with a sweep of its last two matches.

A win by the Lady Agilas will give them the inside track in the race for the last quarterfinal slot in Group B.

Only National U has clinched a spot in the next round from the bracket.

“That’s our goal, to make it to the next round,” said Davao coach Shane Alagao.

Alagao said her players are motivated by the thought of representing Mindanao, with a team made up of standouts from Ateneo de Davao, Jose Maria College, San Pedro College, University of Mindanao and Holy Cross.

The Lady Agilas are pinning their hopes on May Sheila Agton, Venus Flores, Princess Joy Oliveros and Angel Mae Antipuesto.
