MANILA, Philippines –Grand Slam-seeking San Mig Coffee slugs it out with Globalport Friday with the Mixers seeking a second straight win—and third overall—to keep league-leading Barangay Ginebra within sight in the PBA Governors’ Cup at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Coming off two tight games which they split, the Mixers are installed as the solid favorites against the Batang Pier in the 8 p.m. game even if Globalport is set to parade a new import in Dior Lowhorn.

Lowhorn arrived as a replacement for Leroy Hickerson, who failed to get enough local help in the first three games of the Batang Pier, who will take a 1-2 slate into their match against the powerhouse Mixers.

But Lowhorn plays a lot different than Hickerson, as he is willing to do the dirty work inside and play hard defense, something which the reedy Hickerson failed to provide.

Meanwhile, Air21, after taking its first loss Tuesday night in the battle for the lead against the Barangay Ginebra, tries to get back on track in the 5:45 p.m. contest against an Alaska side that has been rejuvenated with the appointment of a new coach in Alex Compton.

Alaska and Air21 are tied with San Mig for second together with idle Talk ‘N Text, and the winners tonight get to stay in the top four and remain in contention for a twice-to-beat slot in the quarterfinals.

The key for Globalport to be able to stay in the game with the Mixers is the performance of its locals.

In a related development, San Mig forward Marc Pingris was slapped with a P40,000 fine but escaped suspension for punching James Sena in an 84-76 victory over Air21.
