Boys baseball: Philippines 0, Japan 44

IT WON’T be right to call it a suicide. All for the tragic fact that Philippine baseball has been lifeless all these past years.

Let’s just assume that there’s an effort to resuscitate the poor thing.

The Philippines, thanks to the Philippine Amateur Baseball Association (Paba), has ended up hosting the Asian 12-Under Baseball Championship at Rizal Memorial Ballpark.

There’s practically nothing being heard or written about the tournament after nearly a week of activity.

To those learning about the issue just now, this reporter has received letters from at least four baseball parents whose kids have been rudely left out of the tryouts for the national squad.

These complaints were backed by results, dates, performance records, that would show the national baseball team formation was far from fair and legit.

The result was atrocious. After losing its first assignment, the Philippine team was swamped and shamed by Japan, 44-0, on the second day of action.

And, needless to say, the Paba, with the blind assistance of the ruling Philippine Olympic Committee, has ended up digging a deeper grave for Philippine baseball.

Please share this latest comment of one of the protesting baseball parents.

Dear Sir:

Please find time to read my personal comments. For now, please do not name me, but feel free to use all my inputs…

BULLET TRAIN vs MRT = Baseball devastation

A score of 44-0 score against any opponent in baseball is very embarrassing.  Much more in your home soil.

In one of the comments by the Coach Jonash Ponce of the so called National Team, “win or lose, it is a good experience for the kids…”

This team is supposed to be representing the country … this is about the country and not themselves.

It is also not about gaining experience, it is about pride and competition.

If the Philippines fielded a “real” team, would the results be better?  We can never guarantee that, but for sure we stand a better chance and deep inside we know we have done our best.  And if we lose, even if we lose bad, we know that this is the realistic state of the sport in our country today.

Let us hope that our players’ spirit and interest in the sport have not been tormented by this experience.  It is something that may traumatize them and they will carry it with them as they grow older.  Will they be better athletes because of this?  Or will they now find another sport?

I hope this serves as a serious lesson to Paba and its ranks.  Or do they even care?

44-0 … only in the Philippines!!

In the recently held Aspac (tournament), the Philippines’ Mustang team scored against the Japanese team… I’m not sure I think it was 10-3, then 8-1…

Today, Aug. 29, Philippines versus Chinese Taipei, the score is 10-0 … but we have no official info yet if the game was conceded to avoid further embarrassment.
