Kiefer Ravena officially named MVP of UAAP Season 77

MANILA, Philippines — Ateneo star Kiefer Ravena was officially named MVP of the UAAP Season 77 men’s basketball tournament Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The fourth-year guard Ravena averaged 21.3 points, 5.9 rebounds, 5.6 assists and 1.5 steals per game to lead Ateneo atop the standings heading into the Final Four.

However, not even Ravena’s outstanding numbers could carry the Blue Eagles in the semifinals after they got booted out by No. 4 and eventual finalist National University.

Joining the six-foot Ravena in the Mythical Five were teammate Chris Newsome, De La Salle’s Jeron Teng, Far Eastern University’s Mac Belo and University of Santo Tomas’ Karim Abdul.

Arvin Tolentino, another Blue Eagle, was officially named this season’s Rookie of the Year, edging Prince Rivero of the Green Archers in statistical points.

The awarding ceremony was held before Game 2 of the men’s basketball Finals between FEU and NU tipped off.

The Bulldogs, led by Most Improved Player Troy Rosario, evened the series at 1-1 with a convincing 62-47 win.
