PLDT Home nips Meralco

PLDT Home Telpad inflicted more misery on Meralco with a pulsating 25-21, 21-25, 20-25, 25-20, 15-11 triumph last night at the start of their best-of-three series for third place in the Shakey’s V-League Third Conference at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

Gretchel Soltones and Suzanne Roces combined for 44 points as the Turbo Boosters grabbed the headstart in their own series and kept the Power Spikers winless in the season-ending tournament.

Angela Benting finished with only seven hits, but her points came at a crucial time for the Turbo Boosters, who broke away after trailing, 4-5, early in the deciding set. The former Adamson star fired a kill at match point, sealing the win in an hour and 57 minutes.
The Power Spikers looked poised to end their skid after winning back-to-back sets in the second and third frames behind Abigail Maraño.

Meralco drew 20 points from Maraño and also got 18 hits from Wanida Kotruang. The Power Spikers, however. committed 32 errors, nine more than the Turbo Boosters.

Earlier, Far Eastern University dumped Rizal Technological University, 30-28, 21-25, 25-16, 25-23, to also move within a win of clinching third place in men’s play.
