After heartbreaker loss, Globalport moves on with win over Barako Bull

MANILA, Philippines — Globalport got over heartbreaking loss to Meralco with a big win over Barako Bull, 99-81, in the 2015 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Batang Pier, who came off a sorry 86-84 loss to the Bolts at the buzzer last Sunday, banked on Terrence Romeo’s efficient offensive effort to level their record to 3-3 and deal the Energy their second setback after a 3-0 start.
Romero, who has been picking his spots, scored 24 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field to go along with three rebounds and two assists. Romeo’s backcourt tandem Stanley Pringle added 14 points and eight rebounds.
“I’m thanking to the players that they responded. That loss to Meralco served as a big lesson to us. We must able to finish well and to start strong,” said Globalport head coach Eric Gonzales in Filipino.
Calvin Warner had 23 points and 19 rebounds in his second game for Globalport after replacing CJ Leslie.
“His maturity being a veteran import helps us in our immaturity,” Gonzales said of Warner.
Globalport started slow but finished strong as it pulled away in the fourth quarter after holding a slim 66-62 lead.
Nigerian reinforcement Solomon Alabi muscled his way to 37 points and 27 rebounds for Barako Bull but his effort was for naught.
The game marked the first meeting between the two teams since the trade that sent Sol Mercado to Barako Bull and Denok Miranda to Globalport. Mercado missed another game due to a toe injury.
