La Salle upends Ateneo, books UAAP Football finals ticket
MANILA, Philippines—He was La Salle diamond on the pitch.
Gelo Diamante found the back of the net in the 87th minute to give De La Salle University a 1-0 win over Ateneo on Sunday at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium and send them to the finals of the UAAP Season 77 football tournament .
Diamante went one-on-one against Ateneo keeper Jose Oracion and calmly shot the ball near the left-hand corner.
The Green Booters, who finished the eliminations as the top seed, are now waiting for their finals opponent, either University of the Philippines or defending champions Far Eastern University.
La Salle head coach Hans Smit said all his weapons should be ready in a knockout game.
“In a game like this, all your weapons should be ready,” Smit said.
He added that going to the finals, his team should be ready mentally.
“We’ll go all the way. We have to start strong and finish stronger.”
