Face POC General Assembly, Philippine Volleyball Federation dares Cojuangco
MANILA, Philippines—Newly elected Philippine Volleyball Federation (PVF) president Edgardo “Boy” Cantada Thursday challenged Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president Jose “Peping” Cojuangco to justify his actions against the PVF following the formation of the Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas (LVP) as the POC-recognized NSA for the sport.
Formed to replace the PVF, which was rocked by internal squabbles, the LVP has already gotten the blessing of the International Volleyball Federation.
But the PVF isn’t taking the issue sitting down with Cantada daring Cojuangco to face the POC General Assembly to explain why he ousted the PVF from the POC roster.
“I dare Mr. Cojuangco to face the general assembly and explain why he masterminded the alleged ouster of the PVF from the POC and replaced it with his self-made and
manipulated new association,” said Cantada during Thursday’s media briefing at the Pacific Plaza Condominium in Makati City.
Cantada claimed the PVF remains as the true volleyball body, citing the POC Constitution that only a two-thirds vote of the assembly could decide the fate of a member.
The PVF has been working since late last year to solve its internal problems, and succeeded to unite all conflicting parties en route to a new set of officers, said Cantada.
POC spokesperson Joey Romasanta said it was the PVF that distanced themselves from the Olympic body.
“They have no one to blame but themselves,” said Romasanta.
But Cantada is also seeking legal opinions about the issue which has also been plaguing other NSA’s ever since Cojuangco took over POC. Cedelf P. Tupas
