Saul Alvarez wants a shot at ‘legend’ Manny Pacquiao
MANILA, Philippines — Rising star Saul Alvarez also wants a piece of Filipino boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao.
Alvarez said it would be an “honor” to fight a “legend” like Pacquiao, who is scheduled to fight undefeated American Floyd Mayweather Jr. on May 2.
“Pacquiao has fought the best, the best in the world. He’s at the end of his career, but he still continues to be a great fighter with experience,” Alvarez told thaboxingvoice.com.
“It would be an honor to fight Pacquiao with all due respect. It would be an honor to fight a legend like him.”

The 24-year-old Alvarez also has a big fight coming up against James Kirkland in Texas a week after the Mayweather-Pacquiao super fight in Las Vegas.
Weight issues, though, could prevent the two from facing off.
Alvarez is currently fighting at the light middleweight division and had reportedly said to have no intentions of fighting below 154 pounds while Pacquiao had said to have no plans of fighting over 147 pounds after cutting Antonio Margarito down to size at a 150-pound catchweight in 2010.

Alvarez has an impressive record of 44-1-1 with 31 knockouts with his only loss was against Mayweather via majority decision two years ago.
And having fought Mayweathewer before, Alvarez hopes the pound-for-pound king opens up “a little more” against Pacquiao to give an “enjoyable” fight.
“Floyd is very smart. He can make things frustrating or he can make a spectacular fight,” Alvarez said in an interview with Fox Deportes.
