New volleyball chief Joey Romasanta was so impressed with the UAAP championship run of the Ateneo women’s volleyball team under head coach Anusorn “Tai” Bundit that he feels there’s a need to enhance the tactical knowledge of local coaches.

Romasanta said they will start the process as soon as the Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas (LVP) sets up a coaches’ pool for the national team.

“They should be able to go through an upgrading seminar to qualify them as national coaches,” said Romasanta, president of the LVP. “We have to prioritize coaching if we want to have a strong national team.”

He said the series of seminars would be facilitated by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) and the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC).

“There has to be a sustained upgrading of technology and know-how so that everyone can keep up with the current trends in coaching,” said Romasanta, also the first vice president of the Philippine Olympic Committee who was recently appointed chef de mission of the Philippine campaign in the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

According to Romasanta, Bundit is the inspiration behind the LVP’s efforts to improve the coaches’ craft came. The Thai’s tactical prowess steered the Lady Eagles to victory over the La Salle Lady Archers in the UAAP finals.

“Local coaches saw the effectivity of Bundit’s strategies,” Romasanta said. “Now, they’re beginning to copy his style.”

The LVP has tapped Roger Gorayeb and Sammy Acaylar to coach the national team. More coaches will be tapped to join the pool.
