Que hangs on, tops Masters by 2

ANGELO Que recovered just in time to salvage  a level par-72 yesterday and win the ICTSI Manila Masters by two shots over Ferdie Aunzo and Miguel Tabuena at ravine-laden Eastridge in Binangonan, Rizal.

Que checked a wobbly start of three consecutive bogeys on the back nine with a birdie on the 13th then parred the rest of the holes to finish with a 72-hole 281 total and capture his first title since the 2010 Selangor Masters in Malaysia.

Aunzo, seeking a second tour win, rallied with a 69 to catch Tabuena at 283. Tabuena, the first round leader who started the final day tied with Que for the lead, shot a 74.

Former Philippine Open champion Elmer Salvador churned out the day’s best score of 67 and wound up tied with second round leader Clyde Mondilla at 284 after the Bukidnon native scored a 72.

Antonio Lascuña, the three-time Order of Merit champion, had a 72 for 286 like Korean Woo-Seung-bin, who shot a 73.

Cassius Casas, Jay Bayron and the long-hitting Orlan Sumcad all finished with level 288s and rounded out the top 10 after shooting a 70, 70 and 71, in that order.

Que opened up with a birdie and then eagled the par-5 sixth to open up a three-shot lead over Tabuena after their first nine holes.
