Last 2 Liga semis berths decided Saturday

THE LAST four teams get a final chance to reach the semifinals when they clash Saturday in the quarterfinal playoffs of the Philippine Superliga All Filipino Conference at Quezon Convention Center in Lucena City.

No. 3  Foton squares off with elimination last-placer Mane ‘n Tail at 4:30 p.m., while No. 4 Philips Gold locks horns with No. 5 Cignal at 2:30 p.m. in the league’s out-of-town sortie billed as “Spike on Tour.”

“We are looking forward to a fun and action-packed weekend,” said Quezon  Gov. David Suarez.

The playoff winners will join Petron and Shopinas in the semifinals slated Monday at Cuneta Astrodome.

Unbeaten leader Petron will take on the winner of the Philips Gold-Cignal match while  No. 2 Shopinas battles the winner of the Foton-Mane ‘n Tail encounter in the premier club tourney  organized by Sports Core and supported by Asics, Mikasa, Senoh, Mueller Sports Medicine, Via Mare, LGR and Heathway Medical.

Shopinas downed Foton late Thursday, 14-25, 25-23, 18-25, 25-20, 15-10,  to clinch the second outright semifinal slot.
“We have to work doubly hard both on offense and defense because we are facing a hungry team in Mane ‘n Tail,” said Foton coach Vilet Ponce de Leon.
