Lady Warriors gain Dickies Cup semis
University of the East pulled off a 68-65 squeaker over league-leading Centro Escolar University-CaféFrance and completed the semifinal cast in the Smart-PCABL 4th Dickies Cup held recently at Philippine Buddhacare gym in Quezon City.
In a game marked by several lead changes, the Lady Warriors proved steadier than the Lady Scorpions as they outscored their University Belt neighbors, 15-11, in the payoff period to pick their fifth win in 10 games.
UE thus finished fourth at the end of the double round eliminations.
CEU remained No. 1 and need to beat UE just once to advance to the finals.
Meanwhile, University of Santo Tomas trounced Ateneo-San Miguel Corporation, 65-49, to clinch the second twice-to-beat bonus in the tournament also sponsored by CW Home Depot, Powerhouse, K-Tech Sports, Inc., Dickies Underwear and Jumbo Plasticm. They will face the Lady Eagles anew in the semifinals.
