Army gains Shakey’s V-League Open semifinals

Philippine Army outclassed Coast Guard, 25-8, 25-13, 25-12, to clinch a semifinal seat in the Shakey’s V-League Open Conference at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

Mina Aganon led the Lady Troopers’ demolition job with four attacks and three blocks as Army notched a fifth win in six games to tie semifinalist Cagayan Valley for second place with two games left in the single-round eliminations.

Unbeaten PLDT was the early bird in the semifinals with a 6-0 record while Meralco (2-3) and Perpetual (2-3) are expected to dispute the last ticket to the Final Four.

In the other game, Navy scored an easy 25-14, 25-19, 25-12 victory over Baguio City to keep its slim semifinal hopes alive

The chances of the Lady Sailors (3-4) reaching the next phase are beyond their control, however. They will remain in contention only if Meralco drops its last two assignments.

Games resume May 10 to give way to the Asian U23 women’s volleyball championship which kicks off today at Philsports.
