Manny Pacquiao understands what drove Floyd Mayweather to do the “abnormal act” of slapping a dummy, supposedly of the Filipino eight-division world champion, twice and posting it on Instagram.

The family background of the unbeaten American has something to do with his resentment of Pacquiao, whom he beat in their blockbuster encounter on May 2 in Las Vegas, according to the fighting congressman from Sarangani.

“We should understand Floyd Mayweather because of his family background,” Pacquiao said in a text message to the Inquirer, in reaction to Mayweather’s post Wednesday. “He hailed from a family of ex-convicts and he himself is an ex-convict.

“That’s not the character of a normal human being. It reminds me of what he did to his ex-wife.”

Mayweather spent two months in jail in 2010 for domestic violence. He was convicted of assaulting Josie Harris, the mother of their three children.

“May God touch his heart so he will discern the real meaning of his existence.” said Pacquiao.

Mayweather, who was shown heatedly asking the dummy why he’s using his right shoulder injury as an excuse for his defeat in their recent fight, later slapped it twice.

Rather than fire back, Pacquiao offered Mayweather advice on how to conduct himself.

“A real champion is gracious both in his words and conduct,” he said. “Someone who is a champion not just on his chosen field of endeavor but even in his own home and private life.”
