Ceres eyes UFL title today
CERES-LA SALLE tries to complete a remarkable season today when it goes for the United Football League crown against struggling Socceroo at Rizal Memorial Stadium.
A draw in the 5 p.m. match will be enough for the Bacolod side to wrest the top flight crown just a year after ruling the second division in impressive fashion.
“We will treat the game as a must-win game because we’re not champions yet,” said Ceres coach Ali Go. “We have to make sure that the players’ mentality is in the right place. We don’t want to let up.”
Article continues after this advertisementWhile the rest of the contenders have fallen by the wayside especially in the second round, Ceres kept its fine run going, dropping just two points to ensure that it will have the luxury of three games to pick up points needed to take the title.
The league champion will also get an automatic berth to the group stage of the AFC Cup next year.
After Socceroo, Ceres still has matches against Manila Jeepney and Stallion to wrap up its schedule.
