Will Star coach Jason Webb still be running the triangle once he takes over the team in the 41st season?

Don’t bet on it that much.

“We’re likely not going to run the triangle, but the principles of the triangle, we will take some of them in our offense because we have to be able to adapt,” he said.

As he takes his place as the lead tactician for the Hotshots, Webb will be coming in with a big lesson from his predecessor coach Tim Cone.

“The one thing that Coach Tim told me was I have to be true to myself,” he said. “Coach Tim’s personality is to the pace of his system, the triangle, the defense. For my part, back when I was still a player, I’m very aggressive and high intensity. When I come in, whatever I’m gonna do is going to be true to me.”

Though he doesn’t really want to be pressured on succeeding a great coach like Cone, Webb knows that it’s really going to be a new chapter for the Purefoods franchise.

“The landscape is going to be different. We weren’t able to defend those crowns last year, but that doesn’t mean Coach Tim didn’t do the best possible job on those situations. Right now, the landscape’s gonna be different. A year removed from the Grand Slam, we’re coming this year with a new coaching staff,” he said.

So far, the Hotshots coaching staff is not yet set. Cone will be taking assistant Richard del Rosario to him in Ginebra, while deputies Johnny Abarrientos and Mon Jose are expected to stay in Star.

Webb, however, said that the team will try to minimize the effects of the changes in the Hotshots’ fort.

“The only thing that I can assure is I’m gonna try to be the best possible coach for the current scenario. That’s what we’re hoping to show this coming season,” he said.
