Go tops Phoenix Am Open; Chiongbian best net scorer

Lloyd Jefferson Go shot a gross score of 2-under-par 70 worth 38 points under the Stableford format to bag the overall title in the inaugural Phoenix Premium 98 Amateur Open at Cebu Country Club.

Go, a former winner of the Philippine Amateur Open, shared top honors with Bruce Chiongbian, who carded 44 points to seize the net championship of the event organized by Phoenix Petroleum Philippines Inc. and presented by Mechatrends.

Carl Almario and Nino Bascon carded identical 40s in the Open Division (0 to 5 handicap) but Almario was declared the winner because of a better score on the last nine holes. Cebu-based Japanese Gen Nagai placed third with 37.

Miguel Martirez turned in 43 points to come out on top in Class (6 to 11 handicap). He finished three up over Ochiai Masatsagu and Frederick Chiongbian in the tournament sponsored by Magsaysay Transport & Logistics and BDO-Unibank.
