UAAP Season 78 to open with archipelagic theme

The UAAP’s opening ceremonies are usually reserved for musical extravagance, and Season 78 host University of the Philippines has the right idea for such an event.

UP Chancellor Michael Tan said the theme would be reflective of the UAAP’s goal and passion of connecting people across the Philippines’ 7,107 islands.

“This year’s theme would be the archipelago,” Tan said during the UAAP press conference Tuesday at Gateway mall in Cubao.

“The UAAP brings Filipinos together.”

Tan added that various colleges of UP pitched in for the Sept. 5 opening ceremonies at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Following the UAAP’s tradition of opening the season with basketball games, Season 77’s bottom four will be starting off the new season.

University of the East and University of the Philippines will match up for the first game at 2 pm, while University of Santo Tomas and Adamson University will face one another at 4 pm. JE
