Southwoods paces PAL Ladies by 2
BACOLOD—Manila Southwoods Masters opened its title-retention drive by taking a two-point lead over a fighting Cebu Country Club squad yesterday in the 10th Philippine Airlines Ladies Interclub golf team championships at Negros Occidental Golf and Country Club.
Fourteen-year-old Sofia Chabon and Missy Legaspi, 13, carded 52 points apiece, Abby Arevalo contributed 49, Loralie Roberto had 48 and Kim Yong-mi and Annika Guangko added 39 and 38, respectively, as Southwoods pooled 278 in the 36-hole tournament.
Cebu CC, which fell short of the title by one point last year, produced the finest individual score, though, as Lois Kaye Go led all comers with 54.
Crystal Faith Neri’s 50, skipper Mary Kim Hong’s 48, Junia Gabasa’s 45, Riko Nagai’s 42 and Ryoko Nagai’s 35 rounded out scoring for Cebu.
“The course condition was hard today,” said Southwoods captain Marie Claire Ong, whose 30 points failed to count like Claudine Garcia’s 34.
The 16-year-old Go shot two birdies and as many bogeys to match par in medal play.
Lady Eagles Australia paced the Friendship division with 227 points, 27 clear of Davao Golf.
