Gilas Pilipinas to join Olympic Wildcard–SBP

With a 17-man pool from the PBA set, the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas on Thursday signified its intention for Gilas Pilipinas to join the final Olympic Qualifiers set next year.

SBP president Manny V. Pangilinan in a statement said the SBP will file the required registration form to Fiba through the Philippine Olympic Committee.

“We welcome the assistance of the PBA and thank the PBA Board for its support,” Pangilinan said Thursday.

Leading the PBA’s 17-man pool that was released Wednesday are two-time MVP June Mar Fajardo and Asia’s best point guard Jason Castro.

PBA Board Chairman Robert Non called for a special board meeting to discuss the pool from which SBP is set to choose its final line-up from.

“May God bless the Gilas team, and our country, for this 2016 Wild Card Qualfying,” Pangilinan said.
