Petron, Foton kick off Liga best-of-3 duel

PETRON will try to impose its vaunted system and championship experience against Foton’s “triple towers” today in Game 1 of the Philippine Superliga Grand Prix women’s volleyball best-of-three final at Cuneta Astrodome.

The Blaze Spikers are hoping to clinch their third straight conference championship after ruling last year’s Grand Prix, and sweeping their way to the All Filipino title early this year.

But unlike before, Petron encountered tough times en route to the finals and had to settle for No. 2 in the semifinals where it disposed of hard-fighting Cignal.

The Tornadoes had a slow-burn campaign fueled by the formidable trio of imports 6-foot-4 Katie Messing and 6-1 power-hitter Lyndsay Stalzer and 6-4 rookie Jaja Santiago.
