San Miguel Beer center June Mar Fajardo ruled himself out of Game 1 of the 2016 PBA Philippine Cup Finals between the Beermen and the Alaska Aces due to a knee injury.
Fajardo hurt his left knee on Friday night in the third quarter of the Beermen’s series-clinching win over the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters in Game 6 of the semifinals.
“Hindi pa [ako makakalaro] (I won’t be able to play yet). Namamaga pa [tuhod ko] (My knee is still swollen),” Fajardo said on Sunday afternoon ahead of his team’s best-of-seven duel which tips off later at 5 p.m. at Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The reigning back-to-back MVP averaged 34.8, 16.4 rebounds and 3.2 blocks per game in the semis. He was stretchered off after sustaining the injury during a rebound play against Rain or Shine’s Jireh Ibañes.
