UAAP Volleyball: Ateneo rips UP for 4-0 record

Ateneo went home with a happy heart as it dominated University of the Philippines, 25-19, 25-21, 25-21, for its fourth straight win in the UAAP Season 78 Women’s Volleyball Tournament at San Juan Arena.
Bea De Leon sent the dagger with a thundering hit down the middle of the Lady Maroons’ defense to seal the Lady Eagles’ 4-0 record that puts them atop the standings.
Despite the victory, team captain Alyssa Valdez wanted more from her team pointing out errors as the team’s main concern.
“Siyempre marami pang kaming nakikita, nag la lack kami [on limiting] our errors, sa service and sa blocking sobra, we have to improve our blocking, tapos ang mga bata sa UP lumalaban talaga,” said Valdez whose team committed 16 errors but allowed 39 points of the Lady Maroons’ spikes.
Ateneo recorded 42 points from spikes.
Valdez once again led her team in scoring along De Leon as both finished with 13 points while fast-rising sophomore Maddie Madayag added 10.
Diana Carlos led the 1-2 Lady Maroons with 16.
