Mayweather not interested in another shot at Olympic gold

Floyd Mayweather Jr. is retired and no amount of eternal glory can take him off his retirement chair.

Not even Olympic gold.

“Absolutely not,” Mayweather told Sky Sports if he wants to take a chance at the medal that eluded him in 1996 when he won the bronze one.

“For my body to recover from all my fights will be for the rest of my life. I’m truly blessed to have been fighting for so much of my life. I had a great run. Ain’t no more for this body to heal but rest.”

A proposal from International Boxing Association (Aiba) President Doctor Ching-Kuo Wo allowing professionals boxing to partake in the Olympics is up for a vote. The move was met with intrigue as well as harsh criticism, especially from WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman.

In a lengthy letter, which was posted in the WBC Facebook account, Sulaiman said the move was “the shameful lowest stage Aiba has reached in the entire history of Olympic boxing.”

Mayweather’s rival Manny Pacquiao, meanwhile, has said that he is open to representing the Philippines in one of the biggest sporting events in the world if asked.
