Bucks lose guard Carter-Williams for remainder of season

Milwaukee Bucks point guard Michael Carter-Williams will miss the remainder of the NBA season due to a hip injury that will require surgery, general manager John Hammond announced on Monday.

Carter-Williams, 24, will undergo surgery on Thursday for a torn labrum in his left hip in Vail, Colorado. His recovery time is expected to be three months.

In 54 games this season, 37 as a starter, Carter-Williams has averaged 11.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, a team-high 5.2 assists and 1.48 steals over 30.5 minutes a game.

Carter-Williams, the 2014 NBA Rookie of the Year, spent his first two seasons with the Philadelphia 76ers before joining the Bucks in February of last year as part of a three-team deal also involving Phoenix.

In his rookie season, Carter-Williams averaged 16.7 points, 6.3 assists and 6.2 rebounds a game — joining Magic Johnson and Oscar Robertson as the only NBA rookies to crack 16 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists for a season.

At 26-37, the Bucks are six games behind Chicago for the last Eastern Conference playoff spot with 19 games remaining.
