“Wala munang pork,” the Rain or Shine big man said, as he plans to go home to Cebu for a quick respite. “Marami namang isda doon. Masasarap at fresh pa.”

But more than his “panata,” Quiñahan has made a conscious effort since last conference to trim down and get into better shape.

“Gusto ko lang din magbawas,” the 31-year-old said, baring that he has already shed 20 pounds to go down to 235, after weighing as much as 260 pounds.

And it has worked wonders, with him performing better on the court to lead the Elasto Painters with 15.6 points–a team-best through eight games–to go with 5.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists in just 23.6 minutes on the floor this conference.

“Malaking tulong talaga kasi nagagawa mo yung gustong gawin at matagal ka mapagod,” he said.

Quiñahan , though, is not depriving himself as he indulges his hunger when his stomach roars.

“Minsan pag gutom, napapakain pa rin. Pero hindi naman talaga ako malakas kumain ng rice eh. Sa katawan, ganito lang talaga eh,” he said, as he now taking the healthier route with fruits serving as his quick snacks.

Quiñahan is hoping that his “Extra Rice” partner Beau Belga will follow suit.

“Sya inaasar ko ng palaki ng palaki, pero kaya pa naman nya eh,” he said. “Siguro maiisip nya yun pag hindi na niya kaya buhatin yung sarili nya. Pero para sa akin, dapat magbawas na sya dahil makakatulong talaga sa kanya.”

However, Quiñahan may not be able to resist the temptation of the famed Lechon Cebu on Easter Sunday.

“Konting balat lang siguro,” he said with a grin written all over his face. “Masarap kumain ng lechon sa Easter.”
