Diamond race: Mangosong rules 3rd leg, dedicates win to family

Mindanao-pride Bornok Mangosong overcame a gritty challenge from bike icon Glenn Aguilar to win the all-important Moto 2 and rule the third leg of the 2016 Diamond Motocross Series at Mx Messiah Fairgrounds in Taytay, Rizal.

Mangosong, leader of the Team UA-Mindanao and a native of Davao City, had a nightmarish Moto 1 in the morning run but regaled the overflowing crowd which braved the heat and dust with a virtouso performance in the Moto 2.

‘‘I dedicate this win to my wife and mother. They never fail to support him. After losing Moto 1, I deeply focused on winning the Moto 2,’’ said Mangosong.

Following a spill, Mangosong was in sixth place in Moto 1 but salvaged second spot to Aguilar. Roles were reversed in the Moto 2 as Aguilar failed to keep pace with Mangosong.

With the win, Mangosong snapped Aguilar’s winning run. The 41-year-old Aguilar, who continued to defy Father’s Time, topped the first two legs of this highly-popular series sponsored by Diamond Motor Corporation and organized by Generation Congregation. The series is supported by Wheeltek, Dunlop tires, Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation, Coffee Grounds, Xtreme Adrenaline Sports Entertainment Co. and PTT Philippines Corporation.

Enzo Rellosa placed third, followed by JC Relosa. Ralph Ramento took fifth spot in the centerpiece pro open.

‘‘The race was really exciting. It was great to watch,’’ said Monique Tiongco of Xtreme Adrenaline Sports Entertainment Co.

De La Salle’s McLean Aguilar ruled the pro lites, while Nueva Ecija’s Pia Gabriel emerged ladies champion. Jing Leongson emerged champion the veterans.
