GLOBAL stayed sharp even after a three-weak break, drubbing Kaya, 3-0, Sunday to extend its lead at the top of United Football League at Rizal Memorial Stadium.

Ivorian midfielder Serge Kaole and Japanese winger Hikaru Minegishi found the back of the net before an own goal from Masa Omura late in the match snuffed out any hopes of a comeback for Kaya, which slid to fourth spot.

“This game did not decide the title, but what it’s done is it kept us ahead of the pack,” said Global coach Leigh Manson.

The former second-division side threatened in the first half with Yu Hoshide, J Baguioro and Takumi Uesato all coming close to scoring. But Voltes needed a strong defensive effort anchored by Masaki Yanagawa to keep a clean sheet against Stallion which dropped to sixth with seven points.

Kaole broke the deadlock in the eighth minute when he headed the ball past Matthew Acton off a well-worked set piece. The second goal did not come until three minutes into the second half when Minegishi won the ball on the left before firing low to the bottom corner from a tight angle.

Nomads recorded its second win of the season with a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Forza to move up to eighth with six points.
