Opting to spend time with its fans, GlobalPort reached out to the people of Old Balara, Quezon City through a feeding program on Sunday.

The players, bannered by last season’s Rookie of the Year Stanley Pringle, Doug Kramer, and import Dominique Sutton led the event which handed out meals to over 300 locals as they found time to mingle with their supporters before waging war anew in the 2016 PBA Governors’ Cup.

Also on hand were GlobalPort head of basketball operations Pido Jarencio, team consultant Franz Pumaren, head coach Johnedel Cardel, and the rest of the Batang Pier coaching staff.

“We see this as a better alternative for us,” said GlobalPort team manager Bonnie Tan. “Rather than spending much on other team activities, we feel it’s better to give back to the people, at the same time, allow the fans to be with the players.”

GlobalPort team owner Mikee Romero and governor Erick Arejola sent their regards as they could not join the team in the event.

The team first had a short devotion with Pastor Crisanto Bacani before the feeding program.

“Our purpose is to reach out to the people that don’t have access to us in the PBA,” said Tan. “At the end of the day, we feel that our efforts are all worth it.”

Pares Retiro sponsored the outreach program, giving out meals to the residents of Old Balara.
