Ateneo stays in semis hunt, blanks also-ran UST

Ateneo kept its semifinals aspirations alive with a straight sets win over UST, 25-22, 25-19, 25-19 Monday in the Shakey’s V-League Season 13 Collegiate Conference at Philsports Arena in Pasig.

Ana Gopico topped the Lady Eagles with 13 points, powered by 10 kills and three service aces.

Kim Gequillana also had 13 markers, six from hits with three blocks, and three aces, while Michelle Morente added 10.

Ateneo outclassed the Tigresses from the get-go, fending the Tigresses off in a close first set before cruising in the last two.

Ateneo forced itself in a three-way tie with University of the Philippines and San Sebastian, all carrying with an identical 2-2 records. The Lady Eagles must win over the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws on Wednesday to clinch a seat in the Final Four.

Meanwhile, UST bowed out of the quarterfinals with a 0-5 slate. Eya Laure led the Tigresses with 13 points.
