FEU, NU open V-League semifinal bids

FAR Eastern University and National University brace for a tough stand Monday against two resilient teams in the Final Four of the Shakey’s V-League Season 13 Collegiate Conference.

The Lady Tamaraws battle the Ateneo Lady Eagles at 4 p.m., while the Lady Bulldogs take on the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons at 6 p.m. in Game 1 of the best-of-three series at Philsports Arena in Pasig.

“Our focus is there,” said FEU coach Shaq delos Santos. “The players are ready to give their 100 percent.”

Although the Lady Tamaraws like their chances after topping the quarterfinal round, the Lady Eagles look more confident, especially after winning a playoff match against San Sebastian for the last semifinal berth.

NU coach Edjet Mabbayad also expects his Lady Bulldogs to be up for the challenge versus a UP side that likewise won a crucial quarterfinal assignment to advance to the Final Four.

The Lady Bulldogs hope to make the most of Jaja Santiago’s presence as the 6-foot-5 middle hitter takes a break from her club team in the ongoing  Asian Club Championships.

NU likewise goes for a win in men’s action as it looks to sweep University of Santo Tomas in Game 2 of the semifinals at 12 noon in the Spikers’ Turf Season 2 Collegiate Conference.

Defending champion Ateneo also shoots for a title berth versus La Salle in the other Final Four match at 10 a.m.

The Eagles outlasted the Archers, 25-16, 17-25, 25-23, 26-28, 15-7, while the Bulldogs downed the Tigers, 25-21, 25-21, 25-23, last Saturday.  Jasmine W. Payo
