Perlas clobbers Singapore to open Seaba Women’s C’ship

Perlas Pilipinas easily dispatched Singapore, 69-43, on Tuesday to start the 2016 Seaba Women’s Championship at the Bukit Serindit Indoor Stadium in Malacca City in Malaysia.

After allowing the Singaporeans to fire 18 in the first quarter, the Filipinas clamped down on defense and pummeled the opposition for the rest of the way.

Coach Patrick Aquino’s girls used a 21-4 tear in the second period to break away for a 46-27 halftime lead and never looked back.

Chak Cabinbin topped Perlas with 16 points, while Camille Sambile came off the bench and unloaded 10 markers, eight of which coming in the second quarter blast.

Allana Lim added nine points, while Cindy Resultay hauled down eight rebounds as the free-wheeling squad ran Singapore to the ground and had 27 points off the opponent’s 14 turnovers.

“We were a little bit sluggish. We came here 1:30 p.m. and it was like siesta time,” said Aquino. “But
I’ve told the players, you’ve got to work hard from start to finish and you can’t have that kind of start from teams like Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand.”
