For Ceres-La Salle, it wasn’t just about closing in on an AFC Cup berth. It was also about regaining some of the fear factor it sowed on teams in the midst of a tumultuous season.

The Busmen couldn’t have picked a bigger match to prove their point.

Facing powerhouse Global with its AFC Cup playoff hopes hanging in the balance, Ceres scored a 5-0 demolition of the newly minted United Football League champions Sunday night at Rizal Memorial Stadium.

After acknowledging Global’s feat with a guard of honor just before kickoff, Ceres dealt Global its worst UFL beating.

The Busmen leaned on a brace from Spanish striker Adrian Gallardo, while Jeffrey Christiaens, Orman Okuinaya and Bienvenido Maranon also scored.
They need a win against JP Voltes on Sunday to clinch second and an AFC Cup berth.
