World standing by for severe stoppage

/ 12:00 AM November 02, 2016

There promises to be war, but trainer Freddie Roach doubts if WBO welterweight champion Jessie Vargas would check in brave and steady enough to wage fullhearted  battle in the world boxing championship slated in Las Vegas this Sunday.

Roach swears Vargas, 27, would goof and run once he gets to feel the fabled power in Pacquiao’s fiery fists.

Conditioning coach Justin Fortune however warns Pacquiao could have his hands full, saying Vargas, whom he has followed and analyzed close enough, is a certified first-class warrior, always ready and wiling to stay and fight no matter the odds.

If Vargas stands up to Pacquiao’s feared panther offensive, Roach says it would be a lot easier to end the night—in a knockout.

Himself speaking, Pacquiao says he would be truly delighted if Vargas holds on and engages in a fierce, unforgiving  slug-out.

Not to worry, Pacquiao also assures members of Manila media, if Vargas ends up evading the issue, sliding back and hiding, they have perfected a trap to contain any wild and gutless elusiveness.

By the way, both Roach and Fortune have openly been predicting a big knockout win for the 37-year-old eight-division world title winner from the Philippines.

Pacquiao, a picture of composure and confidence when he left Hollywood for Las Vegas, has refused to make any KO prediction. He would neither offer any hint.

Of course, Pacquiao knows what the world expects from him in the main event on Sunday. Nobody would be glad with anything less than a resounding KO, that would promote the Filipino ring superhero as the only reigning world champion senator in the world.

Vargas, an awful underdog, has vowed to keep his crown and spring the mother of all upsets. He has kept big battle plans a secret.
