Foton stays unbeaten, downs Petron in 5 sets

Foton outlasted Petron, 25-18, 23-25, 25-14, 19-25, 15-13, in a battle of two undefeated teams in the Philippine Superliga Grand Prix Tuesday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

The Tornadoes leaned on import Lindsay Stalzer and star spiker Jaja Santiago, who combined for 48 points.

Stalzer finished with 29 built on 23 kills while Santiago added 19.

Foton’s other American reinforcement Ariel Usher tallied 15 points.

The Tornadoes overcame Stephanie Niemer’s 38-point outburst. Petron reeled to 4-1.

Former University of Santo Tomas spiker Maika Ortiz chipped in 10 points, including a block on Niemer that put Foton at match point, 14-13.
