Serbian coach welcome to help PH volley team

Moro Branislav, Serbian coach of Philippine Superliga Grand Prix champion team Foton, is welcome to become consultant of the national women’s volleyball team currently being formed.
Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas (LVPI) acting president Pete Cayco yesterday said the renowned mentor, who directed the country’s historic campaign in the FIVB Women’s Club Championships, would be an invaluable addition to the squad.
“If his benefactors offer his services and would foot the bill, he could be our consultant,” said Cayco right after the LVPI board meeting held at the Philippine Olympic Committee offices in Philsports.
Foton owner Rommel Sytin didn’t immediately reply but the Tornadoes are launching a massive buildup for the 2017 PSL season. Branislav is slated to arrive to the country next week.
Cayco also revealed that a Filipino will be named as head coach by next week.
“I have six to eight names right now and I’m talking to each one of them,” said Cayco, adding they will choose only from the members of the LVPI coaching committee.
“These are the only coaches who offer full-time services and commitment, right now that’s what we need,” said Cayco.
That left a few names including former Cignal and Perpetual mentor Sammy Acaylar, Philips Gold and University of the East coach Francis Vicente, and former Petron and Far Eastern University coach George Pascua.
Of the three, Pascua is reportedly the pacesetter, being a three-time champion coach for Petron in the PSL.
University of Santo Tomas coach Emilio “Kungfu” Reyes vowed to help the team but pulled out his name as one of the candidates for head coach because of his commitment with the Tigresses in the coming UAAP.
La Salle’s Ramil de Jesus reportedly didn’t show any interest.
