San Sebastian, CSB eye playoffs

San Sebastian and St. Benilde attempt to secure playoff berths when they take on separate rivals today in the NCAA women’s volleyball at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan City.

San Sebastian will stake its immaculate slate—six victories—against Perpetual Help in the 12:30 p.m. match.

Earlier at 11:30 a.m., St. Benilde, solo second with a 6-1 record, will face Arellano.

The Lady Stags, led by big-hitter and back-to-back MVP Grethcel Soltones, are just three wins away from sweeping the elimination round.

Yet for coach Roger Gorayeb, San Sebastian won’t be able to accomplish a sweep based on how the players conduct themselves on the court.

“We showed a lot of flaws in our game,” said Gorayeb. “That can’t be the level of play that could sweep the eliminations.”

In men’s action, the league-leading Blazers (6-1) and Chiefs (5-1) tangle at 10 a.m. while the Altas (4-1) and Stags clash at  2 p.m. —MARC ANTHONY REYES
